What this is
stocksent tracks what retail investors on Reddit are saying about stocks, and turns that conversation into numbers you can compare: which tickers are being discussed, how positively, on how much evidence, and whether the chatter is unusual for that stock.
It exists because raw subreddit browsing answers none of those questions — one viral post looks louder than fifty considered comments, and yesterday's darling is three pages down today. The dashboard reads the same firehose so you don't have to.
How it works
Every few hours the system scans a fixed list of stock-market subreddits — posts and their comment threads — and extracts ticker mentions, validated against the SEC's company registry so that everyday words don't masquerade as stocks.
Each mention is then classified by a language model: is the author bullish, bearish or neutral on that specific ticker — and what are they actually doing? A recommendation counts for more than a news item; someone listing their holdings is not advising anyone; a question barely counts at all. Comments are read together with the post they reply to, so a one-word answer to "what are you buying?" means what it obviously means.
Opinions are weighted by the upvotes behind them — damped, so one viral post can't drown out organic consensus, and normalised so a post and a comment are compared fairly. Sentiment on the charts is additionally scaled by how much evidence stands behind each day, so a single stray comment doesn't masquerade as a mood swing.
The data refreshes automatically every few hours, around the clock.
What the numbers mean
Sentiment runs −1 (bearish) to +1 (bullish), weighted by upvotes. Trend measures how unusual the current window's discussion volume is for that ticker against its own recent history. Heat combines the two: sentiment, scaled by the evidence behind it, boosted when the ticker is genuinely surging. Every ticker page lists the underlying posts and comments with their individual classifications, so any number on this site can be traced back to the words that produced it.
What this is not
Not financial advice, and not a trading signal. stocksent measures what a particular crowd is saying — a crowd that is frequently wrong, sometimes loudly. Nothing here is a recommendation to buy or sell anything. Do your own research, and treat every number on this site as a description of Reddit, not of a company.
